Position Title
Undergraduate Researcher

Bio

Tien (BS, Computer Science, 2022) conducted research using bioinformatics and other computational approaches for environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding data from Illumina high-throughput sequencing. She worked with graduate student Ann Holmes on projects that use eDNA to characterize fish communities for conservation and management of biodiversity in Putah Creek (near UC Davis campus) and Northern California Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). The second project is a collaboration with Dr. Helen Killeen (Farallon Institute) and PhD candidate Keira Monuki that pairs genetic sampling with community angler surveys in the California Collaborative Fisheries Research Program. She used the DADA2 and phyloseq programs in R to identify fish taxa and conduct further analysis.

Outside of research, Tien enjoys photography and learning Japanese.
