Research Interests

I am interested in investigating ecological and evolutionary mechanisms that play a role in generating and maintaining biodiversity. Ultimately, I would like to work as a museum curator and eventually be involved with a non-profit organization to develop a network of stakeholders and foster scientific communication in an international setting focused on alpine ecosystem conservation.

Research Projects

  1. Increasing resolution of species list using barcodes- investigating how taxonomic resolution of a community can be increased by barcode identification. Collaborators: Roland Knapp, Dave Herbst, Daniel Bioano and Bernie May
  2. Trophic filters in community phylogenetics- investigating the effect of trout presence on community phylogenetic diversity of aquatic midges. Collaborators: Roland Knapp, Bruce Hammock, Monika Winder, Arjun Sivasundar, Oliver Heiri and Bernie May
  3. Cryptic species and phylogeography of alpine fairy shrimp in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range- investigating species distributions and population genetic structure of alpine fairy shrimp (Branchinecta spp.) Collaborators: Roland Knapp, Christopher Rodgers, and Bernie May
  4. Conservation genetics of endangered vernal pool fairy shrimp- developing molecular markers and surveying population genetic structure for species recovery planning. Collaborators: Josh Hull and Bernie May
